A New Branding for Great British Railways is Shown.

The UK government has presented the logo and livery for GBR, constituting a significant step in its policy to bring the railways under nationalisation.

A National Palette and Iconic Emblem

The updated branding features a red, white and blue design to echo the UK flag and will be rolled out on GBR trains, at railway stations, and across its digital platforms.

Notably, the symbol is the recognisable twin-arrow design currently used by National Rail and originally introduced in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

A Implementation Plan

The rollout of the design, which was designed in-house, is expected to occur gradually.

Passengers are expected to begin spotting the freshly-liveried trains throughout the national network from spring next year.

In December, the branding will be displayed at prominent stations, including Glasgow Central.

A Path to Public Ownership

The Railways Bill, which will enable the formation of Great British Railways, is currently making its way through the Parliament.

The government has argued it is taking control of the railways so the service is "run by the passengers, delivering for the passengers, not for profit."

Great British Railways will consolidate the running of train services and infrastructure under a single organisation.

The government has claimed it will unify 17 separate entities and "eliminate the problematic bureaucracy and accountability gap that continues to plague the railways."

App-Based Features and Existing Public Control

The introduction of Great British Railways will also include a new mobile application, which will allow customers to view schedules and purchase tickets free from surcharges.

Passengers with disabilities passengers will also be able to use the application to arrange assistance.

A number of train companies had previously been taken into public control under the outgoing administration, including Northern.

There are currently 7 operating companies now in state ownership, accounting for about a third of journeys.

In the past year, South Western Railway have been nationalised, with more anticipated to follow in 2026.

Ministerial and Sector Response

"The new design is more than a new logo," said the relevant minister. It symbolises "a fresh start, shedding the frustrations of the past and focused completely on providing a proper passenger-focused service."

Industry representatives have welcomed the pledge to bettering services.

"We will carry on to collaborate with industry partners to ensure a successful changeover to Great British Railways," a senior figure said.
