Alleged Bondi Beach Attackers Acted Independently and Received No Instruction in the Philippines, Police Say.

The two alleged individuals responsible for the deadly attack at a Jewish gathering on Bondi Beach, resulting in 15 lives, appear to have acted alone, as stated by national police.

Police also confirmed that Sajid Akram, 50, and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram, 24, journeyed to the Philippines on 1 November. Their itinerary involved landing in the main city Manila before transiting on the day of arrival to Davao City. The father and son flew back to Sydney on 29 November.

Lack of Proof of Preparation During Stay

Authorities assert the duo did not partake in any form of terrorist coaching or "organizing" during their visit in the Philippines. Preliminary findings from Philippine authorities point to they "mostly stayed in" their hotel.

The incident—described as Australia's most severe firearm massacre since 1996—has been formally declared a act of terrorism.

"Our teams are actively reviewing the material," the commissioner stated, noting that preliminary assessments indicate that "the two men are believed to have been lone actors."

National law enforcement Chief Krissy Barrett briefed media on Tuesday that security camera video showing the alleged gunmen's activities in the Philippines had been handed over to Australian investigators.

"Our investigation shows little to no indication to support the idea these accused individuals were members of a broader terrorist cell, or were acting on orders from others to carry out an attack," she stated.

Yet, the duo were also not in the Philippines on a leisure trip, she added. She underscored that, as the investigation is ongoing, fresh information could emerge.

Ideology and Court Proceedings

Earlier, the nation's leader Anthony Albanese said it seems both alleged gunmen were "inspired by ISIS" ideology.

During the incident, Sajid Akram was shot dead by responding officers. He and his son Naveed—reportedly carrying rifles—allegedly opened fire on guests at the Jewish festival celebration.

Naveed Akram, who was wounded after the shooting, has been formally accused of 59 offences. These encompass 15 counts of murder and one count of perpetrating a act of terrorism. He is due to appear in court in April.

In the wake following the attack, border officials in the Philippines indicated that the father had entered the country using an foreign passport, while his son used an Australian passport.

The pair had listed the southern city of Davao as their intended endpoint. Their booked journey back to Australia was for Sydney.
