NBA game action

Miami scored eighty-six first-half points against the Grizzlies

The Heat earned a decisive 146 to 114 victory over the Grizzlies in their first basketball game after player Rozier was detained over alleged unlawful gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Billups was also detained in connection with a broad federal probe into sports betting. The two individuals deny the allegations.

But, the Heat were focused as they put up 86 opening half points to be ahead of the Grizzlies by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year history.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later said Terry had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Full support," Bam stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."

Heat coach Spoelstra added: "Rozier is somebody who is important to everyone. He has made a real positive impact on our team.

"Our thoughts are with him and our care for him as he faces this."

Portland additionally secured their first game since the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Billups' absence and guiding the squad to a decisive 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Chauncey and how he coached," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events

Addressing the arrests for the first time, league head Silver said he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner also said an league probe into Rozier's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated the matter and were very transparent about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"And 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
