The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
